Hindustan Zinc (HZL) chairperson talks about Rs 1,700 billion

Hindustan Zinc (HZL) Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar has said that the global mining sector needs an estimated investment of $1,700 billion for the energy transition. He said, ‘To successfully complete the energy transition, we need an investment of $1.7 trillion in the mining sector. We see an opportunity in India. India is in a position where it can make progress in this area.

Hebbar spoke on several occasions at the recent World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on important topics related to the global energy transition. He also talked about the importance of critical minerals, the future of climate action strategies, embedding sustainability in the value chain, prioritizing women’s health and driving India’s workforce revolution. Hebbar was one of the few Indian women entrepreneurs to be a part of this prestigious platform. She was representing Vedanta and Hindustan Zinc.

He said while countries like the US, China and West Asia have grown their economies based on natural resources, India still has an opportunity as less than 15 per cent of its natural resource reserves are being utilised. The Hindustan Zinc Chairperson also highlighted key initiatives of the government, such as launch of Critical Mineral Mission, auction of critical mineral blocks etc.
